History of Rochedale Springwood Lions Club Inc

And some of the projects that we have been involved in

The Lions Club of Rochedale Springwood was formed in early 1972, receiving its Charter in May of that year, thus having served the Community Service needs of the Logan area continuously for 40 years. Many have served the club over the years and you can click the link to see the honour roll of executive officers

Our Club began working in the Rochedale Springwood area from the very early days of this emerging community settlement, being primarily responsible for the establishment of the Springwood Ambulance. The 1st ambulance indeed, was provided from funds raised by the Rochedale Springwood Lions Club.

As our Club is dedicated to helping those in need, there is an endless list of the ways in which we have aided and assisted the people of the Community in need of our service. We have worked very hard indeed to raise funds in a variety of ways to enable us to achieve our much publicized purpose of, "giving freely of our time labour and means", in the pursuit of giving help and comfort to those of the Community who need this solace so much, in order to sustain their very existence.

We have assisted the youth in our area by developing the Youth of the Year Quest for year 12 Students; by our Youth Insearch Programme for troubled youth. We promote Peace through our International Peace Poster Contest Project for 11 to 13 year olds.

We assist Year 1 teachers with their Language Curriculum in encouraging writing for a purpose through our Letters to Santa Project. We encourage students at the Special Education Units at Kuraby and Springwood through awards and recognition. We work closely with the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre and assist in many of their service projects. We provide assistance to the Rochedale Springwood Meals on Wheels Service recipients by cheering them up with spring Flowers presentation, and a special Christmas box of seasonal treats. We have provided the Logan SES with specialised Equipment. We assist individual members of our community as the need arises. We have provided the Logan Hospital and the Ambulance service with "Trauma Teddies" to assist children unfortunate enough to have been traumatized for one reason or another.

We support the Logan Musical Cultural Exchange with Logan´s Sister City, Hirakata City of Osaka in Central Japan, in conjunction with our Twin Club arrangements with Hirakata City Lions Club. Our most recent support has been to provide a "Pacer Gait Trainer" at a cost of over $5500, for a Springwood four year old which will enable him to overcome his Mobility difficulties. At the same time we combined with other Logan City Clubs in the purchase of a Mobility walker for another Springwood Child.

And so the list of people and organisations supported by the Lions Club of Rochedale Springwood goes on, and on, and on. Needless to say we hope that the Club itself will go on, and on, and on, well into the future.

Not so long ago, our club was made aware of the problems experienced by the RESIDENTS of Nerida St Pensioner Units in hot weather. Air-conditioning was needed to provide fresh air into the unit. Our Lions Club has to work hard to get the money for the many projects it takes on and to get the money to purchase 12 Air Conditioning Units took some time and effort. We were helped considerably by the Logan City Council when they agreed to install the air conditioners for us.
